About the Relics Hockey League

The Relics hockey league was founded in the fall of 2014 by Todd Roach and Erik Jacobson.  We both played in the Legends division of the South Coastal Men’s Hockey League for years.

As we neared the end of our “competitive years” in this division, we began discussing a new league.  This league would be a more relaxed level of play, yet still competitive to a point.  There were several great guys who left the SCHL because they couldn't “keep up” anymore and it was no longer fun for them.  We wanted to bring these guys back and get them playing again.

The first season wasn't typical, but it was successful.  There were 6 teams of 5 guys. We had one hour of ice time. 3 “smaller” teams would play against 3 other “smaller” teams every Sunday.  The guys you played with rotated each week.  One thing was missing – the comradery.  This is when the hard work began.

We were able to recruit enough players from friends, family, the SCHL, and pick up hours to expand the league to 4 teams in the fall of 2015.  We were also able to add a second hour of ice time.

With the help of some key board members, we placed players on 4 teams.  We kept friends and ex-teammates together the best we could while maintaining parity.  The Lincoln Stars, Fargo Force, Madison Capitals, and Tri-City Storm (from the USHL) were the team names selected.  And for the fall of 2015, so far so good.  We are currently discussing further expansion plans.

Although we have room for a few more skaters, we are very selective.  We want the league to consist of good guys who want to have fun.  We discourage “hacking” and rough, physical play as we all have to go to work.  We are happy with the current state of affairs and are looking forward to skating with you in the future. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
